Precis provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services in support of a multi-phase fit-out of a new 3-story, 140,000 SF Testing Operations Laboratory in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Named for its location at 400 Rouse Boulevard, this LEED Gold certified building marks WuXi ATU’s fourth facility at the Navy Yard.

Phase 1 of the project included a warehouse, facilities support spaces including the 1st Floor Lobby, conference rooms, and laboratory spaces including Virology, Mycoplasma, and Microbiology Laboratories.

Phase 2 of the project included laboratory, office, and support areas, occupying the entire second floor and parts of the 1st and 3rd floors of the building.  Laboratory groups include Molecular Biology, QC, QA Environmental Monitoring, and Stability laboratories. Administration areas include offices, conference rooms, huddle rooms, phone booths, and a kitchen/breakroom area.

Precis’ role on the project included evaluation and detailed design of complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. Key components of the project included incoming site utility demand and locations, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems distribution. Location of rooftop mechanical equipment, including air handling units, coordination of scope and installation of site-based elements such as concrete pads for outdoor tanks (CO2, and LN2), emergency generators, and transformers was also part of the project scope.
