• Morphotek Pilot Plant - 2013 ISPE Facility of the Year, Sustainability Category.

  • Integrated architecture and engineering yielded a facility that marries form and function.

  • The plant is 30% more water efficient, 33.2% more energy efficient, and offers a 90% more efficient HVAC system compared to a standard pharmaceutical facility.

  • Sustainable design and operational features resulted in LEED Gold certification.

  • 85.2 percent efficiency and full systems redundancy enables complete segregation of production spaces in the event of failure or contamination.

  • Mechanical catwalk rings the production core and provides access to all building systems for validation and maintenance.

  • Uni-directional circulation and viewing corridor maximizes building area dedicated to production.

The Morphotek campus consists of an existing 60,000 SF mixed use facility and a new 60,000 SF Biologics Facility.

This renovation included: complete MEP replacement. New custom 75,000 cfm air handling units were provided as well as all new central utilities (HHW, PHHW, HPS, CHW, GCHW) and building electrical service. A new PLC based building automation system was also provided.

The new Biologics facility houses a biologics pilot plant, labs and offices. Precis was responsible for the design of all of the MEP and Process utilities for the building.  The core cell production area consists of several ISO class 7 and ISO class 8 suites and is served by a primary/secondary air handling system to provide tight temperature and humidity control.  Utility and process systems serving the core production area are all accessible from a catwalk and mezzanine area.  The central equipment plan consists of three 400-ton water-cooled chillers, two 150 BHP heating hot water boilers, and two 200 BHP steam boilers.

The production area requires WFI, clean compressed air, nitrogen, and oxygen for bioreactors and process skids.  Custom-designed utility panels are provided for each piece of equipment.  The WFI system’s adjustable temperature heat exchangers require additional cooling provided by three 150-ton air-cooled chillers.

The plant is 30% more water efficient, 33.2% more energy efficient, and offers a 90% more efficient HVAC system compared to a standard pharmaceutical facility.

Sustainable design and operational features resulted in LEED Gold Certification.
